The new Impreza WRC appeared for the first time during private tests, a few weeks before the start of the Monte Carlo Rally in 2001, causing great surprise as it is a four-door sedan. Modifying the vehicle took significantly longer than expected, and after a year of competition, the Subaru Prodrive team hoped to confirm the car's great potential on asphalt during the Rally Tour de Corse in 2002.
