What are the differences?
Phum Kao Bin
This lattice pattern, with a rice pattern, dates back to the reign of King Rama V (1868-1910). Originally reserved for the royal family, it was used in the palace, rice being the main crop in Thailand. This design has become an emblem for the Thai people. Every Benjarong collector must include this motif in a collection.
A high degree of craftsmanship is required to produce this pattern that exhibits fluidity and delicacy. The popularity of this motif has influenced many variations on this theme and it can be considered the basic motif of Benjarong.
The word Phum Kao Bin is derived from two Thai words. Phum refers to the bush, while Khao Bin refers to a bowl with a tall saucer and a sharp tip similar to the shape of the lotus. This model basically shows the repetition of the kite, but the detail of the model will be different depending on the type.
